cardinal_snow_web.jpg

Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 7-9pm

Join us for a 2-hour session of painting and "wining". We'll be painting a lovely winter scene of a beautiful red cardinal upon snowy branches on a square canvas with acrylics. We will paint together step-by-step starting with the background, then some "socializing", then the branches with snow, some more "socializing" and then the cardinal. All of the supplies will be included for you to create your version of this sweet scene and the wine!

We will be using acrylic paint, which is permanent once it dries. So please wear something that can take the risk or bring an old shirt to cover your nice clothes.

Bring a friend! Have some fun! No painting experience required.

Limited space, so please sign up soon!

About Lorrie Herman:

I've been creating art all of my life and still haven't gotten tired of it! As long as I can remember, I've had a brush and pencil in my hand. About 15 years ago I started taking painting classes and fell in love with plein air painting. Landscapes are my subject of choice, anything from a historic little street scene to capturing a quiet moment by a lake. I love the challenge of painting outdoors, capturing the light and shadows. Plein air painting allows me the time to relax and create spontaneously. I paint in both watercolors and oils. I strive to paint my watercolors in a loose representational style with quality brushstrokes and wet into wet washes. My watercolor house portraits are a bit tighter with much more detail. My oil paintings are painted with both brush and palette knife. Focus on color is my main challenge these days.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising Design and a minor in Art History, from the University of Maryland, College Park. I worked as a professional graphic designer for 20 years and have continued to do freelance work. As a graphic designer I worked at a variety of ad agencies and corporations designing and producing web sites, print and advertising campaigns and multimedia presentations.

The last 12 years I've been honing my skills as a professional artist, such as, art management, sales, installation, instructing, marketing and sometimes painting! I continue my art education by taking workshops with local and international artists in both watercolor and oils. I also go out plein air painting with several local art groups and friends on a regular basis.
